(English) Design submitted by Peter from the UK.
Peter says: This is Edge LCD, based on the original Edge design.

The machines sent an assassin back in time to the present to eliminate the leader of the resistance. The resistance countered and brought future tech with them. This future tech was replicated the best it could be using present day manufacturing methods. Edge was the first!

The time telling method is exactly the same as the original version, the 4 digit shaped ribbons express 4 digits. In this case the ribbons are replaced with a mirror LCD working in negative, the rest of the face has a mirror masking layer. The time is displayed by the darker areas which are illuminated when the backlight is activated. Above the LCD is a 3D shaped lens which has an extruded shape of the digits, this gives the display a hint of 3D gives a similar feel to the original version.

This design should appeal to the founders of the resistance, pioneers of the first cyborgs and bio-mechanically enhanced humans and of course your average Joe on the high street.
This design stands out from others due to its menacing looks, 3D effect LCD display and the strap mounted controls from the original. This design is totally feasible with todays technology and has twice as much internal space for the electronics as the original.

Love this very much, and I think it’s an improvement. I’d always be worried about getting a piece of carrot stuck in the gaps (re the original). Way cool! 5y
loading...
Hehe if you used the original as a carrot peeler I could quite understand you concerns! lol
Not such duel use with this version sadly! Cheers for the support DZ!

Thanks TF for adding this design to the blog!

Nice update Pete! Mirror LCD is pretty darn cool…
I had a look at my links, and they should be;

Hope they work this time… By the way, are you on Google+?
loading...
Hi Anders, cheers for liking! Thanks for re-linking too. I’m on regular google, not plus or chrome. Will that make a difference?
loading...
Yay they worked! Very cool work Anders! Loving the organic curves! Did you steam the ply to make it malleable?
loading...
I’m not on Facebook, on principle more than anything else, but I do use Google+… Might’ve been an opportunity to talk about things other than watches (cars, for instance =). Ah well…
Thanks, it did turn out quite pretty (if incredibly impractical as a candlestick). Yes, it’s a single strip of wood about 6ft long, steamed and wrapped around some formers, then glued to itself. If I recall correctly, it’s twisted to make it a moebius strip as well…

Yeah its cool, nice to see some hands on skilz about the place!
Aww thats a shame, Im happy to give you email address if you wish? Is there a way of me messaging you without putting my email address in the public domain?
loading...
It’s very nice to actually make something real from time to time…=)
You might be able to find my e-mail on my website, I’m pretty sure I threw it out there somewhere…

Good job Pete.
5Y What do you reckon about their being a bit more of a gap between the numbers?
loading...
Thanks Mr Mushy! Yeah there is no reason the numbers couldnt be more spaced out. I just left the geometry as close to the original version as it seemed to be well recieved. Cheers for the feedback the vote and the comment!
loading...
No worries.
Just thought that would make the numbers easier to read.
loading...
You are probably right sir!
Mind you would probably have helped if id done a straight on view of the display as you would actually look at it! lol
loading...
Yeah that’s true Pete. That would probably help. Hard to please everyone tho.
loading...
For you sir! Straight on view and slightly wider gaps between the numbers!

Nicely deformed versions of the well known digits. Good luck sir!

loading...
Do you mean consider it bought or you already have one?
loading...
Hehe, consider it bought, assuming this will be made.
loading...

Fingers crossed TF make it if only to save confusion! lol
loading...
my wish list just got bigger

loading...
Your gonna need a morgage for that list if it ever got realised! lol
Cheers for the support KV!

Worth more than 3.5…

Hi Patrick, it’s been a while, I hope you are well? I was going to email you the other day cos it had been a while. Yeah this is an update of the original edge design from about this time last year. It’s not as dynamic but hopefully more makeable. Yeah for the comment and vote, and it’s nice to hear from you!

Hi Pete, I was away from the family of designers, I’m glad to see you and see that your projects are always interesting, soon it will be your turn to be produced, of course!
loading...
Its nice to have you back Patrick, fingers crossed TF will take pity on me and make one of my designs! Cheers Patrick!
loading...
No pity, but the pleasure of crowning, in your turn, your job.
Pete, a little patience, everything comes to him who waits.
loading...
haha like the Guiness! Cheers Saint Patrick!
Best of luck with your submission! Hope we see your work here soon!
loading...
Thank you Pete, to thy health, but that I like my project, that is needed initially it is still another history.

Hello,
I love the dials with depth, as they are on analog watches or other displays (3d mirrors bottomless etc.).
Compared to the previous concept, the most successful and really finished, although I like things “raw” side and “cheese grater” I liked
But … it’s mostly aesthetics of the strap that I like … I love this style sheet (certainly more portable and comfortable), and it is rare to see two bracelets with different pieces (Profile superb) and a box with different horns 12pm & 6am.
how the connection is scheduled case/strap? (Tablecloth wire or cable directly from the horns).
I put five stars for 2 (watch and strap … mostly)

Hey Patafoin, cheers for the in depth feedback! If all commenst were this detailed the blog would be a better place! Cheers for the support and Im glad it appeals! Cheers!
On a more important note, how did you manage to animate your profile picture? can you upload an animated gif? that is cool!

Hello,
Hello,
I am a watchmaker, and if I like the traditional watchmaking, I also love watches and avant-garde projects But it’s a pity that I did speak French only, because I would love to talk a lot more about the featured on Tokyo Flash projects.
Sorry for my english pitiful :-/ …
and thank you for your sharing

For the gif I just made a gif file stored on my computer for my avatar.
How can I edit posts? To try to correct my mistakes …
loading...
Hi Patafoin, cheers for reply. I’m afraid you can’t re-edit comments once they are submitted sadly. You English seems pretty good so don’t worry about it. If you want to see more of my concepts feel free to check out my Facebook page “PF Design” you can link straight to it my clicking on my yellow name at the top of each of my comments or by clicking on the linked photo links in the comments above.

Time runs out for this post tomorrow, cant see me remebering to comment then so I will do it now.
