Quad LCD watch overlays the digits.

Design submitted by Pawel from Germany.

Pawel says: I have been a fan of your watches for several years now. After I discovered the blog I was excited by the idea that a design of mine may come to life! So I started developing a design that would be entirely new while appropriate to your brand and technically easy to implement.

The display has four digits: the first two consist of filled quads and showing minutes (or date). The second two digits are placed on top of other two. They consist of frames around the filled quads displaying hours (or month). Since filled quads are expected to be better visible, they show the number are generally more interested in.

This design is for everyone who like artistic watches that are easy to read (such that there is no decryption or much explanation necessary).

There are so many ideas of how time can be displayed already implemented. Trying to understand the underlying pattern of the existing designs, my intention was to come up with a design based on a completely new pattern that have never been used before! Showing digital numbers simultaneously on top of each other is such a novel pattern.

  2. Thanks for posting and the first comments. This was actually my very first submission.

Meanwhile I have seen more designs and discovered that overlaying digits were already used. Look up Tachyon for instance.

A week ago I started working on an “A-Maze-Ing” watch with digits hidden in a maze. Today it has become reality I haven’t even finished the design not to mention submitted it. Isn’t that funny? 🙂

    • Yeah it happens that great minds think alike. Some ideas fly around and just have to be made 🙂 Good luck with this one, it’s pretty tokyoflashy.

  3. Nice concept, probably more suited to the more advanced TF fan as is tricky at first but worth the persistance!

  4. 5Y – great idea, Pawel, and congratulations on your first design submission! It’s a great feeling, isn’t it?

I would like to see a bit more thought gone into the overall design of this piece. The idea is fantastic, though. Time-telling may take a while to get used to, but hey…this is TF!

    Good luck!
