What’ch V.3 – Aluminum 3-way LED Watch Design

Brice says: I am pleased to introduced my first project called “What’ch V.3”.  The idea was to create a watch that can be carried in several ways: bracelet, around the neck and as a pocket watch.

Easy to read.  It uses small LEDs and pressing the right button shows the time and the left button for the date.  The case is made of aluminum brewed for its lightness, strength and style classy. The joints are made of ABS to accentuate the curves and give a futuristic look. Ideally it should be waterproof.

The top is a solar cell to recharge the battery that powers the watch, but can also power an LED spotlight as mobile phones. Useful to illuminate a door lock at night, maps, or as signals. A prolonged press on the buttons activates an SOS signal.

The bracelet is held by a bar that is locked with loops (with several rows of buckles for adjustment).

  1. Nice idea of a multi-wearable watch! What I like most is the numbers and that they are placed on the side of the case and that you suggest to use cells to recharge the battery. Very cool. The material and color combination is also nice and the LED spotlight is a useful gimmick. I’m just less a fan of the shape and the proportions. It’s hard to find a shape that looks good on the wrist but also alone, hanging down. But this doesn’t change the cool base idea. Good luck Brice and welcome to the blog!

  2. I have to agree with Sam on most points. I like the principle and the numbers look great. The concept of wearing in different ways is nice. Its just the proportions that could do with some work imho. Maybe if the display face was a 45degree angle as apposed to vertical this would allow the height of the case to be reduced but keeping the display the same size. The case could also taper way from the display so its narrower at the opposite end, this will make it look much smaller without major change. either way is a support worthy concept 5/Y welcome to the blog Brice! 😀

    For proportions. I made an image with dimantions but it has not been posted. I saw an error.
    The case: 1.5 “x1.2” x0.4 “(4 cm x 3 cm x 1 cm)
    and 16.50 “for the strap (42 cm)

    I returned to work.

      Pete mentioned it but I also have to make my proportions statement more clear. It’s not just about the measurements but also about the shape. The Kisai Online* is 1,4cm think (!) but is has optimal angles so it still looks cool. It’s not easy 😉 But it’s fun.

      • I like the form of the case.
        I change rarely shows because I do not want something that looks like a watch. this is why I deside to propose my ideas.
        I also want to be realistic by not proposing to designe watches very end because I know it can not be manufactured.

  5. Nice one. Most comments is good. Just adding one or two. I think the buttons should move to the side like any other watches so that upper part can use a bigger solar cell for better aesthetic view of simple. For wrist band, I suggest also aluminum or other metal because alminum or metal strap make the watches more elegant whether as a baraclet or necklace. Looking for to the new development.

  6. Hey, Brice! I like the double band and solar cell. The thickness is dictated by the light button, so I’m curious to see how you would make it flatter without losing that design aspect. Perhaps make the case transparent to give it a lighter look?

  10. Thank you. This design is actually vaguely awesome. I like the solar cell. Kill the SOS signal. Having an on-board radio would significantly increase the overall weight and cost of the end product. If people really think they need something like that, they should really just go for Life Alert. =P I like the light, and I also especially like the pocket watch-to-wristwatch transformation. Very original, unlike most things harbored by this website. I now love you. Thank you for your contribution to what I once thought was a desolate wasteland, devoid of all that is novel in any way.

    • thank you for this message. A very good idea on the radio! I personally never listen to the radio but an MP3 player … 😉
      Moreover it is true that I am inspired by the designated audio player I possaide (for buttons).
      I hope my next projects will please you too.

  11. I like the digits and the time-telling method. The solar cell is nice, but can it be made ?

    But, I don’t like the overall look, the light and the strap.
