Design submitted by Lloyd (Australia) and Peter (UK).
“Time Shift” is an exciting LED concept watch that displays the time and date by ‘beaming’ digits onto the display. It was inspired by the futuristic teleportation devices in sci-fi programmes and films.
The 6-digit time and date are displayed by using the slider controls to make them seemingly materialise and dematerialise by using animated LEDs. Pushing the left slider forward turns the display on and, at the same time, initiates the materialisation of the time. Pushing the right slider forward simultaneously turns off the time and initiates the materialisation of the date. To revert to the time, just pull the right slider back. Both the time and date start at the 12 o’clock position and progress in a clockwise direction.
Time Shift has an alarm and is USB rechargeable via a computer. The display can be set to “always on” and the digits can be made to materialise and dematerialise in a variety of different ways. There is a “random” option for displaying the animations. There are various lights strewn around the watch in keeping with the sci-fi theme which could be utilised for various modes or functions. The watch is available in several different colour combinations.
This design would appeal to anyone who likes sci-fi and cool gadgets. Kids and big kids are well catered for here.
It stands out because of its unique animated display which is fun and easy to read. The interesting form and sci-fi looks also help the wearer stand out in the crowd.
How cool is this, Beam me up !!!! This is a five plus for me, and I want one now! Easy to read, great design and great graphics.

digits are awesome, slider concept is awesome – only criticism from me is i prefer more symmetry…maybe have the circular display more centered, and put the sliders above and below the display…

Hi Heather, This concept would lend itself to a variety of layouts I think. We chose the A-symetric one becasue it kinda looks like the enterprise. If it was more similar to the defiant shape you could use the layout you suggest. There are many posibilities, cheers for the feedback! 😀

Thanx for the feedback Heather. We tried a layout like you suggest with the sliders below the display but it just didn’t look cool and, to be honest, just made it look like any old watch. Then we remembered TF have created watches that are asymetric so we stuck the sliders on the side. First on the left, which would have made the buttons awkward to use, and then on the right. This wasn’t quite right, so we moved the display to the left to make the sliders less intrusive. This also had the added bonus of making the watch resemble a spaceship from above that’s not a million miles away from the Enterprise.

Oh I can the the main deflector and the bussard collectors and the warp engine field grills now! And we know, beaming at warp can work hehehe. Nice how abstract the watch stays so it can be seen differently by different eyes. First it was a dj pult, then my view changed.

Yeah we tried to keep it as abstract as possible (I have often been badged as too literal in the past! lol) while still having a subtle resemblence to the iconic space ship form. Yeah its cool when people see different things! cheers for the warp factor comment Sam! 😀

Gimme, gimme, gimme! The only concern I have relates to the sliders – wouldn’t they be liable to break or get dirt in the spacing?
Cheers,
DZ

I dont think they would be any more likely to break than conventional buttons but dirt may be a factor. But then my mobile phone is full of nooks and ports etc and that lives in my fluff filled pockets but doesnt get excessively dirty. nothing that a good blow wouldnt sort (so to speak) lol

Brilliant and cool and geeky–like to an insane degree.
To me, watch resembles the Enterprise as Rodenberry imagined it in the ’60s with the sophistication Lloyd and Pete furnished it in 2012.
5 and yes no doubt. Good luck!

I love the overall look and the numbers rendering. ( the lights look like stove heating ring ) I prefer the red-plated one. ( red/black ). Depending on the size, I would buy.
