“Scigns” LCD watch with alien symbols.

Design submitted by Lloyd from Australia.

Lloyd says: This concept LCD watch design is called “Scigns” due to the strange, alien-like hieroglyphs used in the display.

Figuring out the time or date on this watch is pretty easy. It just looks weird at first. The structure of each sign in the display is created around an imaginary 3 by 3 square array of spots. Each sign, however, has only 1 or no spots showing. Each spot represents a digit between 1 and 9. A sign without a spot represents 0. The signs themselves don’t actually represent anything, but simply provide a framework enabling you to see the position of the spots and so determine their values. Consequently, any sign can be used to represent any digit. Please see the images below.

This watch is USB rechargeable via a computer. Its case and strap are made from stainless steel and are available in silver or black. The display is “always on” and is available in 4 colours: green, blue, pink and purple. It has an alarm and an EL backlight to illuminate the display in the dark.

I feel this design would appeal to anyone who likes sci-fi and quirky modern things.

This design stands out because of its unique, futuristic display which is also deceptively easy to read.

  1. Bought!

The numbers look so cryptic but are decryptable and with some practice really quick actually. That’s the perfect Tokyoflash effect in my eyes. Very creative idea, well thought through. The case you designed for this concept looks very nice too. I see nothing, I would change so 5*/YES/Good luck!

  2. pretty neat. i love that you always include a purple color choice. (rof eht snainotulb!) looks ridiculous, but pretty simple to read once you’re used to the dot placement. i really like the case and strap here too!

    • Thanx Heather! 🙂 Yeah I like purple a lot. I’ve got a Nekura Scramble and love being able to change the colours on it. I like the purple and green modes best. 🙂

  3. Nice work, and I’m not just saying that because it’s in some ways similar to a concept I’m working on at the moment…=)
I like the hieroglyphic patterns, and if they’d update occasionally to make it look like they show the time it’d be brilliant.
The one thing I’m not quite friends with is the look of the display, but I’m sure TF would jazz it up a little if they decide to make it. Good luck!

Ps. As i mentioned earlier I’ve got an idea not completely unlike this (the same basic display concept), and even though I think my design is sufficiently original to stand on its own, I just want to be clear that I’m not trying to rip anybody off… That said I’m sure TF won’t publish it if they think it’s too similar.

  8. What does the bit at the bottom of your post mean?

This is a test to send a picture, but it does not work.

Yes, I sent another idea, will I try you to forward them?

  9. an amazing concept. I would buy, a green ( or red, if they make it ). A white lines on black display might be nice. 5*. ( I would have given 6 because there is nothing to change).
