It's so you can't just guess which digit each cluster represents from the pattern of remaining bubbles. I tried removing bubbles as well to make the design less structured, but then for some reason - probably a lack of confidence - I changed the design back again. lol I was hoping TF might do an animation so that you got like bubbles passing the windows. At one time I was thinking of making the watch a bit Steampunky/Jules Verney so that it would be like looking out of a submersible's windows. But I thought that might be too much.
