(English) Codex Cube LCD watch design with triangular digits.

(English) Design submitted by Firdaus (Malaysia) and Heather (USA)

Firdaus & Heather say: The display for this LCD watch concept, Codex Cube, was inspired by the Kisai 3D Unlimited display. By using triangular digits (originally developed for our previous Codex submission) instead of rectangular ones, we can display two digits on each “face”, allowing room for hours, minutes, and alas, the ever-changing seconds.

This sporty, yet fashionable unisex watch has a two-tone hexagonal case with a two-tone strap. The colored part of the two-tone case highlights the hours, whose digits are shown in the negative, while the minutes and seconds are shown in the positive.

The digits of the time are read in the same fashion as those in the Kisai 3D Unlimited watch – top, left side, right side. The size of the Codex Cube watch is intended to be similar to that of the 3D Unlimited as well.

The dynamic display is cryptic looking, yet quite readable. Though there have been other submissions featuring a positive and negative display, this one stands out as it highlights this quirky feature in a unique two-tone case.

Would love to, Rex, but so far just a concept. Cross your fingers, though…With enough support, it could become reality! ;)

I like it, really unique! It’s also looks like a puzzle, don’t you think? Really want to buy one.

Hmm what an eyecatching design! I like the numbers alot! Although I must admit, the similarity to the 3D Unlimited is a pity, it’s different enough to come as a new design with some distance… Maybe when the 3D Unlimited sold out this watch can conquer the world. The “edges” of the “cube” could be thinner. More display then! Very appealing presentation. With all slight critiques in mind, crossing fingers, 5*/MAYBE=YES ;)

Hey, Sam! Thanks for your comments and support!
Though this display was inspired by the 3D Unlimited, I feel the prominent difference on the surface would better be seen if we had an animation. The fact that the seconds would always be changing really adds a significant dynamic element, that I think sets it enough apart from the 3D Unlimited to be considered new. Also, the two-tone case with positive-negagive display and new strap material adds a sporty edge that helps to set it apart.
Your comment about the “edges” of the “cube” being thinner is a great suggestion. Critiques are always appreciated, so thanks for your honest evaluation!

A very fashionable design, I like the bicolour scheme flowing on to the band. Both men and women could happily wear this one.

Just a quick bit of feedback, Heather and Firdy. :) How about having three colours or three different shades for the watch face so that the flat cube shape looks 3 dimensional?

  10. avatar Firdaus より:

Thank you everyone who provide feedback. I like original Codex better, but this design is good too. I appreciate any suggestion to make it better. Well, good luck all.
