Design submitted by Sam from Germany.
Say says: The initial idea was to combine the time telling numbers into one shape, one symbol, one thing that looks interesting and has the important information visible all the time.
After playing around with different ways to interlace numbers, the result was stacking two pairs of numbers upon each other, a big one and a small one. The big background numbers tell the hours (or the months). The small foreground numbers tell the minutes (or the days). The numbers are all based upon the classic 7-segment digits brought into a half circle shape. Two numbers create a full circle. One display is nice but two displays are cool. This is why Focus got an eye catching dual display case with time and date readable at once.
This is a watch for robots, cyborgs, androids and toasters. And fans of all the just mentioned.
hey, sam. i don’t think i fit the demographic on this one. it’s a shame, because i really LOVE the digits, and the way two concentric circles give the whole time clearly, but with the two separate displays, it’s a no for me.
make one that only shows time, and date with a button press, and i’ll buy it.
awesome digits!

Is it based on an electric razor?

No I haven’t. Do they shave with their watches?

No, but there is an inventor in the film who has an all in one gizmo that has a razor, toothbrush etc etc all in one unit called the “bathroom buddy” It wasnt a watch but it could be (if you are a crazy person! lol)

I like the concept, but I would like a vertical display… It would be more aesthetic, in my opinion.
Good luck and great deisgn 🙂

This is a nice and interesting take on the stacked numbers topic, criptic but easily read when you know what your looking for, with a robotic look.

Another beautiful work of Sam, there is nothing to say.
5 * and Yes, the watches of Sam are now the “classic”.

Ouch 3.5! Now that’s a hint >.<
Anyway, thank you so far for your support, to all who like the watch!
I can see, having a single display or two but vertically aligned ones is a welcome possibility. Single can be bigger, vertical looks more dynamic. I like both versions 🙂
As for the razor, lol xD Now that you told it, is looks indeed like the first electrical one, that my grandpa gifted me! Brrrrrrrr Bzzzzzzzz hehehe.

This watch is very beautiful, even though Mushy found the detail that kills.

To say Sam that his watch is like an electric shaver, it’s fun, it’s “the detail that kills” is a French expression which is not bad at all, should not be translated into English, because it does not mean anything anymore. No problem Mushy.

Seems like the best approximation would be “The devil is in the details”

Johnny 5 is ALIVE! Sometimes I like the more traditional designs, sometimes I like the bizarre stuff. This is one of the latter. Lovely look, awesome digits, big up! 5robots, yesh!

I’m a little split on the dual-displays (pun intended), but I love the display scheme. Instant 5/Yes for me.

For some people the horizontal configuration will be preferred, we know that it can be appreciated as we have had ‘wide’ watches before that did very well.
On the blog I think the consensus is for vertical.
Either way, the graphic styling of the numbers & how they entwine – plus your use of red & green – is very striking.
It almost has a celtic feel.
For displaying the time, its a winner for me. One of the best ‘stack’ ideas as its so easy to see at a glance.

Wow thank you for coming by! Always nice to see the blue boxes.
I like the “celtic feel” you mention. You mean the way of how the numbers are grouped right? I thought about letting them be an alien tattoo (early working title of this concept actually) on one’s wrist using a clear LCD screen. Then I saw 3D glasses (red green) and fell in love with the simple but striking image. There are soooooo many ways, once you start with an idea. I am really impressed and surprised by your spider watch, which is a really cool example for ‘stack’ ideas.
About horizontal/vertical: It could be a turn-case! Software-wise this would mean a little more effort and the turn-and-snap mechanism can’t be that expensive… I’m just dreaming 😉

Would it be possible to have the small numbers in one color & the big one in the other color ?

Hi there! Yeah it would be possible – there are different ways to let the numbers be in different colors 🙂

nice. It would be easier to tell the time, but might be less attractive. I like that the date is shown at the same time. I would buy.
