Sound Sensitive LED Watch Design

Design submitted by Sam from Germany.

This watch design is a sound sensitive watch which reacts to environment sound.  The display of the watch is inspired by the voice modulator of K.I.T.T. which changed from a flashing rectangle to three arrays of LEDs in the middle of the first season.

The left side of the case has a USB port that can be used for charging and uploading files.  The right side has a three part touch field with setting buttons for time and sensitivity and a play button for uploaded MP3 files.  There are different colored displays (each watch has one color only) and different display styles, which are inspired by the original K.I.T.T and K.A.R.R. displays plus two more displays to finish the series.

Time reading works simple: the LEDs have to be counted.  The 12 hours appear in the middle, the five 10 minute steps on the left, and the nine single minutes on the right.  The date can be shown in a similar way (mid: months, left: 10 day steps, right: single days).

Anyone who like to have easy fun on their wrist might like this watch. Sam thinks that Knight Rider fans could enjoy it, too. This is a fun watch which keeps a sense of soberness in style. It is entertaining and it looks good, not only when you check the time.

  1. Hai Justin, I already wondering if I am wearing this watch…. so cool. Plus so… it can speak too?

    Like

    • Hai Britney thanks for commenting! You can make it speak. Be it your own voice or another recorded sound file. For the presentation, I used a text to voice converter, which would be an option too. There is a USB access, so you can upload mp3 or even text files (less big, but more “intelligence” inside the watch needed). You can tell, what the watch sais when you have to get up, or remind you each hour to buy blueberries, or sing you a song when ur sad…

      • Actually, I feel like someone was sneaking my sketchbook lol, but the concept is presented in beautiful way… Love the female robot’s voice, I feel like the future is soooo near. It’s my pleasure to comment on your design Ms Justin 😉 Send my regard to Sam.

  2. Wow sam from my country! Geiles Teil Alter! I shouldn’t surf the internet when I’m at work, but I cannot resist to leave my groopie love here lol. This piece rocks the party! I would love to walk around or dance with this flashing watch. I would buy the evil green one first. *****/YES

  3. I like it very much. very interesting ideea. The red variety it reminds me of MK2 Circuit watch produced by Storm.

Mk2 Circuit has only two lines of LEDs.

Anyway, this concept is original, I think in the club will be thrilling, a killer. very good ideea. I would like to have one. Five stars from me.

  5. Oh thanks at all for your comments!

Aphosno: Danke Alter 😉 Tanks for coming, commenting and rating! Yes, let’s party!

iezat: if this watch gains a big fandom and if there are not too much technical issues, this watch might be available to buy… but right now it’s a concept only.

Patrick: Sounds good to me 🙂

Gabriel: Oh yes. I did research about my concept before I made it, to see if I’m really the first one making such. I saw the Storm too and decided, it’s different enough 🙂 Oh yes, I think it would look good when the techno tracks play. I thinks the three columns can be made the way, they react to the different sound levels (bass, treble, mids). Thanks Gabriel.

Gordon: I searched a long time to find the right voice. I like the mix of girl and robot. But in the end, you can take whatever sound you like, this is just an example to advertise. Seems it was a good choice 😀 I’m not sure how to vote 6 stars. It’s definitely NOT 5* plus 1* from another computer (this goes out to the 1* folks). Scott, thanks for commenting!

    Gordon: Hell yeah, thank you!

    • Sam, I did not know it was your project? But this confirms what I think of you, I love the voice “robot”!

  6. Sam, I usually prefer minimalistic designs, but the animation using the decorative LEDs is very nice! This would get a lot of attention, but the watch still looks sophisticated.

  7. Beautiful design and execution, Sam. I would be concerned with battery life, but this is a minor quibble.

Knight Rider was one of my favorite shows growing up. TURBO BOOST ENGAGE!

  8. 😀

Gordon: I will make an image with my favorite dj wearing the watch 🙂

logan: Thank you for your thoughts! I tried a mix of retro-futuristic look to honor the 80’s and to welcome the future.

Cory: Oh yeah, I’m hearing the turbo sound now. Yep battery life. Actually I had a passage about this in my description… I thought about a replaceable battery pack, so if you have long nights and the lights go off, you can bring them back to life by changing the rechargeable battery. Lithium-ion ftw 🙂 Thanks for coming by and commenting!

  9. Cool idea, I like these T-Equalizer t-shirts, too, but never thought of making a watch doing the same.
Design also looks very nice and minimalistic (or as you describe it: “sober” (I really like the words “sober” and “in the club” going hand in hand :-P).
I can see people really want to wear this thing in the club and having fun while getting the attraction of others, that is kinda cool I think ;).

So, Sam, as always 5*/y DO WANT!!! ist echt ein “GEILES TEIL ALTER” 😉

  10. SanBurza: Thanks 😉 I hope this becomes true.

nicolai: Auch deutschsprachig? Angenehm 🙂 These shirts rock, hehehe. Oh yeah, I think sober (I saw Patrick using the word on here and I liked it) and club works fine. I see club life as a mix of style and craze. This watch has to “survive” outside the club too. I think it’s cool when you’re on the streets and traffic sound enlights the watch so you’re always a little beacon 😀 Yeah, that’s a communication starter – a very good element of tokyoflash watches. Nicolai, thanks alot for your comment and rating!

  15. Already commented for this one but i want it so bad. I went to the basement last weekend and found my old knight rider video cassettes. I recorded the whole series when it came on rtl plus. Thanks for the nostalgic feelings!

  16. @ Aphosno: You are welcome. RTLplus? Oh man, that where good times back then. I’m glad that I catch the Knight Rider fans 🙂

@ Moulta: Hehehe, thank you! How about a brighter material for the case and then pink LEDs? White and pink look awesome together (if I allow myself to be in Hello Kitty mode) Apart from this watch, I submmitted a design, where you can change the colors and I also show a pink version! Stay tuned.

  17. holy molly, what a watch, fantastic.
what are the chances that it will be buyable?
also your dot watch design, a piece of art, would buy that one too 🙂

is there any other way to keep up to date about your designs and the answer to the question when we can buy this watch?

    • Hello Martin!

Oh the chances… It’s hard to say. There are many many factors which have to come together for a watch to get produced. I already can say, without flattering myself, the feedback is pretty good. Technical feasibility is average in difficulty (in comparison to the dot watch). So as for this blog, the watch has to fit in Tokyoflash’s catalog – and this is a Tokyoflash exclucive decision, among some others. The good thing is, this design keeps it’s age. Equalizers-like displays are used until judgement day. And Knight Rider will always be a cool show from the 80s.

Hey cool you mention the dot watch. It made it’s way through the internet lately. I have another tactile watch in my repertoire. I will submit it soon. It’s less smooth, more steampunky 🙂

Did you just “like” my facebook page? That is one of the best ways to be up to date about my watches. The Tokyoflash blog on here is good too and, their facebook page also.

Martin, thanks for the comment! I hope, I can provide more specific information in the future.

      • yeah, i “liked” your fb page but was´nt sure where the best place is to keep up to date when a watch gets really produced and is availible to buy 🙂

i know tokyo flash, i already bought 2 watches from there, one was the black ip pimp with white leds…if i recall the name correctly 😀

thank you for your quick answer, i hope we can buy your watches in the near future 🙂

  20. I didn’t watch Knight Rider that much so I cannot build up enthusiasm from that. I thinks it’s cool in the club though. If there really is a “text to voice converter” as you mentioned above, this watch would be great. Good luck!

    Like

    • If that’s a question, my answer is: Yes you do!!!!! Hehehe. I would be happy to be in the position to tell around, this watch is available (grammar check… ok) I really hope Tokyoflash can do it. LEDs ok, MIC ok, speaker ok, USB (files and energy) ok, touch field ok, text to voice could be complicated but it’s so much fun! Cross fingers! x(^o^)x

  21. Not long left to go Sam. I would say best of luck but I don’t think lucks got much to with it! 😉
Lets hope the TF techies can find a way to produce it! 🙂
