Honestly, I was planning something around the time 7:77, but I couldn't figure a completely logical way to factor it in. Randomness, as you suggested, is a really good idea, but may be annoying when your in a rush to find the time... It could also have been randomly activated by a timer, but then the wearer of the watch wouldn't be involved, and probably wouldn't even see the 7:77.
