Uzumaki Spiralling Concept Watch Design

Design submitted by Firdaus from Malaysia.

Firdaus says: “Unleash your inner circle. Don’t miss any time, even a second. Why press the button to see the time? Uzumaki – a spiral themed watch design is a unique, conventional analog watch that balances the importance of time keeping and fashion.Just let the circles spin for the whole day (or year) each at a different speed (second, minute and hour) to form a continuously looping glow-in-the-dark vortex effect that shows the time in conventional analog format. Lost the light? Just press the button for further illumination with internal LED backlighting.

Quartz movements are the most popular type of watch architecture. There are more fans of quartz movement than any other type of watches. The Uzumaki watch concept brings Tokyoflash style in the heart of those who prefer the convenience mechanism of conventional time keeper. They are the majority of target market.

Enjoy the benefits of a quartz movement with continuously spinning circles that are visible in most angles that the eye can see (with side seconds circle), even in the dark. It’s not just a fashion statement, it’s a time keeper. Or, would you prefer a self-winding mechanism or more accurate atomic tech?

  1. Wow beautiful design, I love how it’s based around circles and it’s also very easy on the eyes unlike other tokyoflash watches which gives me a headache just by looking at it.

    • Thanks bro. It’s not only easy on the eyes, but you don’t have to push button to see the time because it’s a quartz movement. I’m afraid people will think that this is an led watch.

  2. Fantastic design, visually stunning.
How about a white L.E.D. version and even also a white L.E.D. version with white strap…

    • Thanks for the compliment Bern. It’s a quartz movement watch. My idea is you will only use the led when u r in the dark place without light source after glowing faded. The LED only be used to provide further illumination to the glow in the dark circle. After the led stop, the circles will continue glowing. During day or anytime with light around, u don’t hafta push the led button because the spinning circles are always visible. But I might understand ur suggestion, the contrast look B&W circles with white body+strap isn’t it? That’s very nice idea too.

  3. Beau-ti-ful! I can’t look away, I’m hypnotized @.@ Very good work! I love the case and the changeover into the strap, the staggered display and the hands’ gradients. 😀

  4. Simple, wonderful, analog! Just one thing: I don’t need the spiral pattern. Otherwise: 5 / 5, congratulations! Keep it up!

  5. The IP black one with red-orange is the best looking imo. Having the watch face recessed in the case is really cool looking. The relative simplicity of the links in the band is a nice offset to the watch face itself.

I like the spiral, but am not big on it also being glow in the dark, since it may fight with the time telling in darker environments.

    Sweet design, Firdaus! S-rank! 5*/y!

    • Indeed, the ip black with red-orange is the 1st model before the other variants. The spiral in the middle can be replaced with either circles, kisai logo or quartz word. Thanks 4 ya comanrate Korikun 😉

  6. wow.. the level of detail some of these concept submissions are starting to get to is astounding!

anyway, beautiful design. i would be totally down with owning one of these. only question might be with the ‘always on’ feature, how long would the battery last?

    Like

    • Thanks cortjezter. Good question. For quartz movement, single battery power obviously last from 2 -7 years depends on many factors ie battery type (you can google or ask anyone who got quartz watch, they are everywhere to confirm it / or u might probably got one already). And of course TF can put the usb charge function on it if necessary. If u chose it to be self winding mechanical watch, u just need always wear it and no need to use battery at all except for led illumination.

(~Sorry TF forget about the spam, no need to post)

  7. Nice work Firdaus! This design has a certain simplicity that I like. Looks unique and is actually instantly understandable. It’s also quite visually appealing thanks to the spiral effect – a nice development on flat discs. I’m actually a fan of the decorative spiral in the centre, it adds to the vortex effect. My colour preference is black blue.

    • Thanks Avatara, you understand the concept well, thats what I want to say to audience but I dunno how to put it into words.

  8. Very nice watch and very original (for decorative spiral at the center, in my opinion, not really useful?
    A big YES!

    • Thyank u Patrick. Like Avatara said, its useful to visualize the vortex effect, of course it sounds fancy because its a fasion item.

  9. This design has really impressed us here. A lot of time and thought has been put into this and the end result shows. As a designer you have a very good eye for watch design. Since it is an analogue design it also what we are looking for. The question is how the movement will show through the lens. It needs to be tested, and the second hand. Ideally you should be able to see the time without pressing the button, but also have the light for night.

    Any other designs? 😉

    • My dad has collection of quite number of quarz clocks and watches (I dun hafta mention brands) most of them are Japanese movement. From my observation, there r two types of moving second (hand), 1) – move-stop-move-stop and 2) – continuously moving slowly without stop (like what I proposed in the animation). The moving second animation was rendered with real life situation taken into the account. The hands are parented to their respective disk/circles, so when the hand move/spin, so the circle. Each hands has different height of needles that connect to the disk/circle to suit the vortex-shape dome. The disk should be located near enuf to the dome cover. The glass material used for the render is set to certain level of thickness (ie. of mesh, in blender unit), and, Index of Refraction (IOR in yafaray unit) to make it visible. In real life situation, IMO the lens should be made of magnifying glass with certain amount of refraction, used to help absorb more light to the glow in the dark disk inside, vice versa. The disk should be made of alpha or (certain) % transparent material or film that can absorb and emit light in different situation. And regarding the led back light, it should helps to further provide source of light to the disk, which allow the light to be transmitted with the color of the absorption and dispersion filter – and the mag glass will help to enhance it visually from the outside.

Oh man what I’m babbling, I hope my message understood by TF 😉

What d u mean by other design, for this or another? I hope I will have it in another 2-3 weeks, but might not be an analog (from what I have in my mind right now). I need a holiday for that 😉

      • Yes I understand. I was thinking the same thing about the lens being magnified.

Other design, I meant a whole new watch as I am curious what your second design would look like as this one is really good.

  12. GREAT DESIGN, beautiful bracelet, with a sleek design accent / see the ‘kisai’ logo. I think it’s one of the best there are on the forums and would like it to see realized. They idea of the moving circels looks stunning even with the extra seconds ring on the outside. (i would like too see the central spiral replaced by a black center, more classy en the the best designs are often the most simple)

      • Hey, thanks Aph-dono 😉 and about the rating, its not only happen to this concept design, I observed other designs too, got underrated day by day. I might want to suggest to Tokyoflash to revise the rating system to require voter to fill up email address to avoid spam. Only serious voter who comments should be allowed to rate. You know, there is ip changer / faker that allows you to commit rating many times? That can make the current rating system easily manipulated. Well I neither wana be prejudice nor a psycho. May be this design really deserve to get that rating?

        Like

      • Ok if that is the case (about the id) then the rating system is in vain and cannot be trusted anymore.

About how much the design deserves. First of all it deserves an honest rating. And then, a 4.0 means it is between neutral (3) and omg-I-love-it-to-death (5). That’s pretty good actually 😉

I like your idea about how to better the rating procedure. I totally agree.
