“Bainary” Binary LED Watch Concept

Design submitted by Laszlo from Hungary.

A concept watch design that shows the time in a relatively simple manner in binary. Using 12 blocks, the hours are shown on the left and minutes on the right. A combination of the lit numbered squares on the left show the current hour on the left and minutes on the right.Binary is very simple to understand after you learn the system. It’s also great for improving your math skills and training your brain on a daily basis. Tokyoflash has sold binary watch designs in the past and currently the R75 watch has a binary option. If you’d like to learn more about that, check out the product page.

The case is quite strong and features a division down the centre separating hours and minutes that follows through into the strap.

How do you feel about this concept? If you’d like to see it become reality, vote below. If you have any thoughts on how it can be developed or improved, give Laszlo your feedback below.

  1. A very clean design. A bit of addition involved but if you are good with numbers should be pretty easy. Probably would be easy for anyone after a week.

  2. I would definately buy this watch, love the form factor, we need more with like this with the face running parallel to the arm, great for most people with smaller wrists, and looks cooler anyway… great strap pattern too.
but if there were options I would pick the white one with blue leds (or white ones for a hyper-minimal styling) and a black one with blue leds!

The counting system is fun, might take a week or two to get used to but hey that’s a good brain exercise.

Really hope this one gets made!

  3. That’s a binary watch I like! I don’t like counting for time reading in general but somtimes… there comes a watch wich lets me reconsider my position πŸ™‚ Thanks for using numbers! The case looks very cool. Good work again Laszlo!

  4. Some weeks ago, I had exactly this idea, a binary watch, and it was my first idea to post here. I felt really frustated. I was designing my own version, which is a bit different, when I saw your version.
Anyway, I’ll try to submit my version, which I think is more stylistic, more simple, than yours. It’s no a competition. Tokyoflash will choose.
Good work and good luck πŸ˜‰

  5. Nice binary watch submission!
Just one point, wouldn’t it be more logical to have the animation increasing the same way the numbers does? Or maybe it’s the numbers which should follow the animation? (but I guess in this case it would not kill the concept of having a line which separate the minutes and hours…)
