Helix – The Ideal Watch Design For The Geneticist

Design submitted by Logan from the USA.

A fascinatingly beautiful and biological looking concept from Logan here. He says: “This idea is surprisingly simple to read; there are three segments; hours, 10-minute groups, and single-minutes and one segment of the single-minute shape is used for AM/PM.”

The display is like the structure of DNA with the blue lines showing hours 1-12, groups of 5 minutes in yellow and single minutes with green dots. It would look really bright and energetic with colored LEDs against the black screen. This method of telling the time is particularly logical as the time progresses in one direction and as the time increases the number of lights increases.

We love the theme, it’s in the same kind of genre to the popular Infection watch that was designed and sold by Tokyoflash a couple of years ago which showed cells mutating and moving across the watch as time progressed.

Nice theme, but for me, the shape doesn’t really make for an interesting overall look. I mean, there’s a lot of unused space on the screen and a watch shaped and sized to fit the DNA structure would be too narrow.
