Section – Segmented LED Watch Design

Design submitted by Logan from the USA.

Whoa!  Logan’s ideas are just overflowing!  We have here twelve square segments combined to form a rectangular shaped display.  The LEDs illuminate clockwise from the top left to count 1-12 (all off for 0).  Hours are displayed first, then tens of minutes, and single minutes.

This design has a similar concept with our Kisai Broke with its segmented lines and unbalanced sections.  What’s appealing are the uncluttered design and single-colored LED, which makes it ideal for minimalists.

Logan sees the casing and band in white.  We tried it in black.  What color combination would you prefer?

  1. It took me a while to work out how this displays the time. I guess it lights up four times to show four digits. I prefer to be able to read at a glance. I really like the layout and I agree with Logan, it would look nice with black LCD squares in a white or silver case. I like the clean simple style a lot.

    • Avatara: there are 12 squares, so it only lights up three times: first the hours, then tens of minutes, then single minutes. I think a white face will contrast better with the squares, as in my illustration. I know from your other comments that you prefer to see all digits at once, so stay tuned for my “neon” design (if Tokyoflash posts it).

  2. Hi Logan, ya agree with Avatar here. Design is great but flashing on 3 times kind of takes away from the design. I think this would look great in LCD always on. Maybe need 3 of these side by side to display the time. Might work. What do you think TOKYOFLASH?

  3. I could see this design being quite popular is it was in the right case and like Tokyo Pimp said have 3 screens to be able to see the time all at once. Easy to read and graphically appealing is key. You are often very close to hitting this just right. Keep up the great ideas, and perhaps an offer will be coming your way.

  4. 3回に分けて時間を読まないといけないところが結構めんどうかも。表示のパターンはおもしろいから、そのままで一発で
    時間を表示する方法があればいいかな。

  5. I like that it lights up in steps. I also have such an idea in my sketch book 🙂 Depending on how long each phase on, its hard to read though. If its one second, its to quick to recognize the digit. If its 3 seconds, you forgot the first number when u reached the fourth. Some tests would be necessary before considering to produce it. Anyway, it looks cool.
